Pumpkin Brown

Next to Dance Base, where people are in good shape, but in the midst of the Grassmarket where bad diets abound, is Edinburgh’s “freshest” café. All organic, all vegan takeaway and sit-in. Snacks and the best good-for-you smoothies. Coffee with all the plant-based milk variants. Feel clean! Seven days 8.30am-6pm. pumpkinbrown.com 0131 629 1720

The Mosque Kitchens

There are two Mosque Kitchens; the one on the original site (no website or phone), through an archway in West Nicolson St, is the totally stripped-back streetfood version, with some seats upstairs behind the Mosque and a tented section in the lane. You order in the kitchen and can eat for under a fiver.
