Chris: I could be the greatest dancer if I learn to be the greatest romancer

-

As a novice dancer just finding his feet on the floor, it would be natural for Strictly contestant Chris Ramsey to worry about his posture or forgetting the steps.

But the 33-year-old comedian admits he’s more concerned about having to perform a romantic routine that requires “looking sexy” than learning choreography.

Ahead of last night’s performance, he said: “We had a lot of fun this week, and the quickstep is lovely. Our dance, in my opinion, is very silly, joyful, skippy and daft. And very, very fun.

“When I’ve got to be sexy we’ll be knackered. It worries me big time. Hips worry me, having to look intense without pulling a stupid grin worries me. I like smiling so I’m not looking forward to the dances where I’ve got to look serious and manly. That’s not something that comes easily to me.”

Last week, a shock result saw fan favourite Dev Griffin eliminated from the show, after the DJ ended up in the bottom two alongside Viscountess Emma Weymouth.

After dancing to Let’s Go Crazy by Prince, Chris and professional partner Karen Hauer will be hoping to secure the public’s support and avoid facing the dreaded dance-off in tonight’s show.

And Chris says he’s only concerned with getting better and impressing his teacher, Karen, rather than competing with his fellow dancers or getting upset by the judges’ comments.

“I go in every week thinking it could be my time to go,” he said. “You can’t take the comments to heart or get yourself wound up about it – they’re judging, they’re always going to find something to critique.

“As long as Karen knows I’m trying my hardest. Karen is my number one judge.”

Strictly continues tonight, BBC1, 7.15pm
