Comeback is a tribute to late owner of Foxes

- By William Jackson sport@sundaypost.com

Leicester boss Brendan Rodgers felt his side’s second-half performance against Burnley was a fitting tribute to the club’s late chairman Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha.

The Foxes came from behind to take all three points on a day when Khun Vichai was remembered at the King Power Stadium.

October 27 will be the one-year anniversary of the Thai billionaire’s tragic death in a helicopter crash, which also killed four others.

Youri Tielemans’ second-half strike sealed a 2-1 victory after Jamie Vardy had cancelled out an opening goal for the visitors by former Foxes striker Chris Wood.

Rodgers felt the emotion of the occasion might have affected his players during the first half, but thought the “fight and spirit” they displayed embodied the values of Khun Vichai.

Aston Villa boss Dean Smith hailed a “captain’s performance” from Jack Grealish as his side hit a last-gasp winner to beat 10-man Brighton 2-1 at Villa Park.

Both teams went into the game on the back of fine wins ahead of the international break.

But it would be Villa celebrating as they came from behind to win, with Grealish teeing up Matt Targett to score his first goal for the club with almost the last kick.

It had looked set to be a frustrating afternoon for Villa after Grealish had equalised in first-half stoppage time, Aaron Mooy having already been sent off for the Seagulls following Adam Webster’s maiden goal for Graham Potter’s side.

But, with Targett tucking away the winner, Smith was able to bask in what was a fine display from his skipper.

“He was excellent,” Smith said of Grealish.

“It was a captain’s performance.”

Ralph Hasenhuttl insisted it was time for Southampton to finally show their bottle after a gutsy point at Wolves.

Danny Ings struck his fifth goal in four games as the Saints ended their three-match Premier League losing streak with a 1-1 draw.

Raul Jimenez’s penalty denied them victory, but boss Hasenhuttl was pleased with the reaction which stopped the rot. He said: “Everyone knew it was time to show up.”

Norwich manager Daniel Farke claimed Manchester City would struggle to cope with his side’s defensive injury problems after grinding out a goalless draw at Bournemouth.

Farke’s side picked up a first Premier League clean sheet and away point of the season, despite finishing an uneventful contest without a centre-back.

“I love Manchester City but I would like to see them playing without all their centre-backs.”
