Bamford busts the net to send Leeds second

-

Leeds left it late to snatch a 2-1 win at struggling Luton, which helped them climb back into the automatic promotion places.

It had looked like the hosts would end their run of four straight defeats when James Collins’ header cancelled out Patrick Bamford’s emphatic 51stminute finish. However, they were undone by Bamford’s close-range strike in the 90th minute, which went in off Matt Pearson.

Charlie Austin’s 88th-minute penalty helped West Brom beat Sheffield Wednesday 2-1 and maintain their two-point lead at the top of the table.

Hal Robson-Kanu’s fourth goal in six games gave Albion a 10th-minute lead, but Steven Fletcher’s 58th-minute penalty appeared to salvage a deserved point for the Owls, who had Jacob Murphy sent off in time added on.

Gerhard Struber’s first game in charge of Barnsley ended in defeat as Bradley Dack’s brace helped Blackburn to a 3-2 win at Ewood Park.

Martyn Waghorn came off the bench to score the goal that secured a 1-0 victory for Derby over Preston.

Waghorn diverted the ball in from close range in the first half and Derby could have had more goals against a strangely subdued Preston, who created very little.

New Stoke boss Michael O’Neill saluted his battling side as they came from behind to beat Wigan 2-1.

Second-half goals from Danny Batth and Mame Diouf cancelled out Sam Morsy’s first-half opener as the improving Potters made it successive wins since O’Neill took charge.

Marc Roberts’ header cancelled out Frazier Campbell’s opener and earned Birmingham a 1-1 draw against Huddersfield Town at the John Smith’s Stadium.

Cardiff City came from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 at Charlton on Neil Harris’ Bluebirds managerial debut.

First-half goals from Conor Gallagher and Jonathan Leko left Cardiff in trouble at the break, but goals from Nathaniel Mendez-Laing and Lee Tomlin ensured honours ended even.

Nottingham Forest held out with 10 men for more than half an hour to earn a goalless draw at Bristol City.

Jed Wallace’s second-half free-kick snatched a 1-0 victory for Millwall over Swansea at the Liberty Stadium, while Ollie Watkins’ goal earned in-form Brentford a 1-0 victory over Reading.
