A school has banned Christmas cards to protect the planet. Good move, or is the head teacher a Scrooge?

Teachers should not be interfering on such things. They can give their opinion on it being bad for the environment if they feel that way, but that’s all.

Judi Martin

They are a waste of paper. I still send some, but only to a very few who would be hurt if they did not receive a card.

Jacqui Gauld

I still send some, many with letters enclosed, and enjoy the catch-up letters I receive in return.

Liz Kelly

My granddaughter’s class had to send each other a Christmas card. Multiply this across all the schools in the country and it’s a lot of paper to dispose of.

Hamilton Mclean

I think it is lovely to send and receive cards. Everyone loves to get cards through the post.

Margaret Brown

It is a good idea, as not all pupils would be able to afford to send cards to the whole class and could then be a target for ridicule and bullying.

John Morris

Cards to close friends is acceptable, but it’s not necessary to send to everyone in the class (including the teacher).

James Thompson

Christmas cards are not outdated but, for many, postage costs are too much.

Allison Scotland

Christmas is once a year and we can’t cut out all the enjoyment to aid the environment. If cards are chosen carefully, without glitter etc, and recycled, I see no real harm.

Elizabeth O’Regan

I still send cards and look forward to receiving them, as it’s sometimes the only link we have with old friends.

Ronald James
