Accies’ boss not planning major signings

- By Brian Fowlie SPORT@SUNDAYPOST.COM

Hamilton boss Brian Rice isn’t planning a raid on the transfer market despite his team going 10 games without a victory. Accies are now just one place above bottom side St Johnstone after losing to St Mirren yesterday.

They’ve played two games more than the Perth club and both have 12 points.

The transfer window reopens in three weeks’ time, but Rice still has faith in his players.

He said: “If something comes up, we might make a move but it won’t be too many.

“There is one specific position I’m looking to bring in.

“But, other than that, I don’t think we need too many.

“It’s a new squad and I still have a couple of key players out injured.”

Rice was clearly unhappy with the way Hamilton fell out of the game after a reasonable start against St Mirren.

He said: “I thought the second half was a disappointing performance.

“I thought in the first half we were on top, had the momentum but we never tested their goalkeeper.

“In the second half the tone was set right from our kick-off.

“We had kick-off and St Mirren immediately hit the post. We couldn’t get back in the game after that.

“I don’t think it’s belief that we’re lacking. I just think it’s a wee bit more quality in the final third and to keep the back door shut.

“That’s the same back four that played at Parkhead against probably the most potent striker force in Scottish football and you wouldn’t have thought that this time.

“I’m not blaming anybody. We win together, we lose together.

“It was a big game for us and we’re really disappointing in the manner we lost the game.”

Hamilton heads were down as they trudged off the field but their boss doesn’t think that’s a bad sign.

He added: “The players are hurting. That’s one thing about the players, they give it everything they’ve got.

“Their commitment and endeavour is never in question.

“We were down to 10 men again and they kept battling away.

“It’s very difficult but they keep going.”
