Holt: No rush to make ‘Ronseal’ full back a Lion

Livingston boss Gary Holt has hailed the impact of shortterm signing Aaron Taylor-Sinclair.

But he admits talks over a new contract are on hold until the winter break.

The left-back was snapped up by the Lions last month on a deal until January following a short spell out of the game.

The former Montrose and Partick Thistle full-back returned to Scottish football to join Motherwell last season after stints south of the border with Wigan Athletic, Doncaster Rovers and Pymouth Argyle.

However, until Livingston stepped in, the 28-year-old – who was linked with Celtic earlier in his career – had struggled to find a new club after being released by the Steelmen in May.

Taylor-Sinclair has impressed since making his debut as a secondhalf substitute against Rangers and his first start against Celtic at Parkhead last month.

But Holt insists he is in no hurry to enter into negotiations over a fresh agreement with the athletic defender as his team prepares for three games in eight days ahead of the winter shutdown.

He said: “We have not even spoken about it.

“Aaron just wants to come in and train and play, and be a part of something.

“He hadn’t played 90 minutes since April and then suddenly played three games in a week.

“I think he really enjoys it and he’s fitted in well with the boys.

“It’s honestly refreshing to see, a boy who has no baggage, no airs or graces, and just wants to come in and do his job to the best of his ability, every single day.

“He’s done himself no harm but with full-time training and games we’ll certainly get more out of him.

“He’s a wee bit like Ronseal. He does exactly what it says on the tin!

“It’s as simple as that, and that’s why he’s fitting in well.

“I’ll address his contract when I get a chance – but in this month of December I’m not going to get too many chances.

“We’ve been open with him and he’s been open with us and we just want to concentrate on playing games.

“We want to focus solely on each match and then we’ll take it after that.”
