A Berry Royal Christmas

BBC1, Mon, Dec 16, 8.30pm

She’s the queen of baking, and they are royalty of the more traditional kind.Tomorrow will see Mary Berry join the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge for a special one-off treat.

She is teaming up with Kate and William for a unique look at some of the charities the pair support.

And it was in conversation with Mary that Prince William opened up about his grandmother, The Queen.

“My grandmother becoming Queen at a very young age, in the days when it was a man’s world, it was very difficult for her to make a difference – and she’s done it in her own, very unique, distinct way,” he said.

“And, my grandmother and my grandfather together are the epitome of public service.”

Throughout the programme Mary will also be cooking some of her favourite Christmas recipes for viewers to try out at home, as she helps prepare the festive food for a very royal event, held to thank all those working and volunteering over the Christmas period.

The Duke of Cambridge and Mary will visit The Passage, which is London’s largest resource centre for homeless and insecurely housed people.

Along the way they will meet the inspiring people whose lives have been changed by the help and support these charities provide, especially at Christmas time.

Mary will also join The Duchess behind the scenes at RHS Garden Wisley to learn more about the importance of the early years in raising the next generation of happy, healthy children.

The festive special will culminate in a Christmas party, hosted by The Duke and Duchess, and will feature some surprise guests, including former Bake Off champion Nadiya Hussain, who will be reuniting with Mary Berry to help with the food.

The party will be held to thank and

acknowledge staff and volunteers from charities and organisations who will be working tirelessly over the Christmas period.

Mary has designed the Christmas menu, and The Duke and Duchess will even be mucking in to get involved with some of the party prep.

“It will be truly special to see the causes so close to their hearts, as well as to hear all about the amazing support these charities provide, said Mary.

“The finale is a big Christmas party and I will be cooking up a feast for them to enjoy.

“A Christmas special not to be missed!”
