Gardener’s growing fury over refund

-

Dorothy Bain was fuming when she mistakenly paid twice for an order from a garden goods supplier – then struggled to get her money back.

The pensioner, from Dunblane, Perthshire, ordered a torch and other items online from Yorkshirebased Garden Ability.

The bill was £31.95 but, in error, Dorothy paid £63.90.

“I paid by PayPal and because I am not that great with computers, somehow I managed to pay for the order twice,” she said.

After she noticed her mistake, Dorothy said she contacted Garden Ability to explain her predicament.

“I asked for half to be refunded but I was told that they had only received one payment,” she said.

Dorothy said she then contacted PayPal but the company told her that Garden Ability was aware of the issue and it was up to them to sort it.

“PayPal told me that, as far as they were concerned, the case was closed and they could do nothing further, even though I was out of pocket,” Dorothy said.

“I telephoned Garden Ability again and this time was told that they would look into it – and then I was told PayPal had already refunded me, which they hadn’t.

“The whole thing was upsetting. I am a pensioner and can’t afford to throw away any money.”

At the end of her tether, Dorothy wrote to Raw Deal and we asked Garden Ability to look into the ongoing issue.

Good news is that, within 24 hours, Dorothy had the £31.95 paid back into her account.

She said: “Raw Deal has done in one day what I have been trying to do for nearly a month. I am extremely grateful for your help.”
