Kerr: Dark Blues need to roll sleeves up
Cammy Kerr understands Dundee fans’ fears over how their season is panning out.
After all, he isn’t just a player – he’s a supporter, too.
Friday night’s defeat to Dunfermline left the Dark Blues just one point clear of the fifth-placed Pars.
More worryingly, Queen of the South, in sixth, are now only four points behind with two games in hand.
For a club who started the season with title-winning aspirations, it isn’t good enough.
But Kerr is ready to fight to secure his side’s place in the play-offs – and a shot at a Premiership return.
“I understand the fans’ frustrations,” said Kerr.
“It’s so hard being a Dundee fan on the pitch. It kills you inside.
“But you’re on the pitch for a reason, and you have to take responsibility, myself included.
“I take it hard because I’m a Dundee fan. But I feel for the fans.
“I think we all need to give more as players and keep pushing hard.
“You don’t get results by just turning up on a Saturday. It’s what you do through the week, it’s how you live, it’s how you do all the stuff that people don’t see and we need to do that.
“This league is so hard, United found it tough in years past when they struggled and needed time to adjust.
“We’re not using that as an excuse, we know ourselves we need to get back on track to make sure we get in that play-off position.
“We’re very well aware of what’s creeping in behind us and it’s down to us to change that.
“You roll the sleeves up and go again Monday morning, there is nothing else for it. I know it’s clichéd, but that’s all there is.”
Meanwhile, Dunfermline boss Stevie Crawford insisted in-form Kevin Nisbet, who bagged a peach of a strike against Dundee, will not be leaving East End Park this month.
“Kevin is deserving of any attention that he may be bringing to himself at the moment,” said Crawford.
“It’s a good problem for us, I think it’s a number of years since Dunfermline last sold a player.
“If he’s going to attract interest from other teams I’m sure the chairman will be happy. But we won’t be looking to move Kevin on in the January transfer window.
“He’s got a big part to play for the rest of the season.”
