Louis wants to see his mobile go wild again

- By Sean Hamilton SPORT@SUNDAYPOST.COM

Louis Appere lit up Tannadice with a Scottish Cup stunner against Hibs.

Now the Dundee United star is determined to do the same at Easter Road – and send his Hearts-supporting mates wild.

Super-sub Appere’s phone went crazy after his superbly-taken secondhalf strike secured Tuesday night’s replay for the Tangerines.

It was a sweet moment for the 20-year-old, who will feel he proved a point after starting the game on the bench.

But the Fife-raised star isn’t finished – and neither, he hopes, is his mobile.

“My phone was lighting up after the first leg,” Appere admitted.

“It was a nice feeling. A nice goal. But we only got a replay, so we have to go to Easter Road now and try to get the win.

“I’ve got more mates who are Hearts fans than Hibs to be honest, and they were the ones hitting my phone afterwards to say, ‘Well done’.

“Hopefully it’s the same after Tuesday night!”

United can feel confident of pulling off a shock at Easter Road, after twice coming from behind at Tannadice.

The runaway Championship leaders refused to give up.

For Appere, that proved they aren’t a million miles away from being a Premiership team themselves.

“We were saying after the game at Tannadice that we showed we can compete with them,” he said.

“So we’ll be looking forward to the game on Tuesday.

“It will maybe be a bit more difficult, being away at Easter Road. But we’ll take belief from what we did at Tannadice, and head down there and see what we can do.

“The first game was a good indicator for us. We showed we can compete with these sides.

“If we can go there on Tuesday and get a win, that would show even more that we’re ready for the top flight – if we get there.”

Given United’s lead at the top of the Championship, it seems more likely a case of ‘when’ rather than ‘if’.

But Appere – like everyone else in Tangerine – did feel Hibs were a different calibre of opposition than they have been used to.

“I think the pace seemed very fast right from the off – and it didn’t slow down much right until the end of the game,” he said.

“That’s what I noticed, both from watching and coming on.

“But that’s useful because it shows us where we need to be.

“Hibs have got some quality players. Their front three or four are great players, so we’ll need to try to deal with that again on Tuesday.”
