New boy Dylan insists his best is yet to come

-

Dylan McGeouch is still moving up through the gears after signing for Aberdeen,

writes SEAN HAMILTON.

But the Dons star still has high ambitions for this season.

McGeouch came through his first full 90 mins for the Dons unscathed in midweek.

However, being on the wrong side of a defeat to Motherwell didn’t sit well with the former Sunderland man.

The result saw the Steelmen stretch clear in the battle for third place. But McGeouch reckons Aberdeen’s targets for the season have not changed.

“The ambition here attracted me, of course,” said the man who also pulled on the shirt for Celtic and Hibs.

“We’ve had European football the past few years, we’ve been to Cup Finals, finished third in the league, getting close to things.

“There’s a lot to play for here, it’s not just coming up here to get games for me. I want to be going a long way in the Scottish Cup and, obviously, finishing third is our target as well.

“The Old Firm are running their race for first and second. But if we can get third and have a right good run at the Cup, it would be a good season for us.”

McGeouch’s performance against Well drew praise from Dons boss Derek McInnes.

But the player himself, who is aiming for more gametime against St Mirren today, insists his best is yet to come.

“I’m just coming in to the squad and really enjoying it but everyone will feel they can go up a gear or two,” he said.

“And I know I can go another few gears and hopefully I find them by getting games, it’s been a while since I played regularly.

“I was disappointed with the result against Motherwell but it was another 90 minutes in the legs and as each game goes by I’m getting closer to the level I think I can be at.

“As a squad, we know we can do better and I want to play as much as I can to help this team. The boss has brought me in to play and I feel good.

“But as each game goes by I’ll get stronger, more confident on the ball and the pitch.

“We’re looking to restart our season, post-break, and finish strongly so we’re disappointed with how it went on Wednesday but we can use that hurt and disappointment.

“We grafted well, but it was missing a bit of quality, personally and as a team – we know we can bring more.”
