McInnes the man for Dons, insists Taylor
Aberdeen defender Ash Taylor made a spirited defence of his manager Derek McInnes after they took a point against Rangers yesterday.
Disenchanted Dons supporters chanted for the manager to go last Sunday following the goalless draw away to St Mirren.
But it was a different story after the North East team recorded the same result against Rangers at Ibrox where jubilant fans cheered the team off the pitch.
“Of course, he is the right man for the job,” said Taylor when quizzed on the significance of the result for his boss.
“What he’s done for this football club is fantastic. He’s brought us on leaps and bounds.
“You have your tough times at clubs but you’ve got to stick with it.
“You are playing for Aberdeen, it’s a massive club and you are going to get criticism when you don’t win your games.
“Here I felt like we did enough to win the game, we had the better chances and we are coming away a bit disappointed not to have the three points.
“But it was important that we put in another solid performance, we got another clean sheet which is pleasing against an in-form side like Rangers.
“It’s important that we build on it and take it into the next game.
“We know we can do better in front of goal and it’s going to come. Hopefully we can do that on Wednesday (against St Johnstone at Pittodrie).”
Meanwhile, Rangers new loan signing Ianis Hagi is relishing the prospect of spending the rest of the season in Scotland after making a quickfire debut off the substitutes’ bench at Ibrox yesterday.
“Overall, the experience was good and bad for me today. I was really happy to make my debut for such a huge club in front of the fans,” he said
“They were amazing. But I can’t be too happy because we just got one point at home so we’re disappointed with that.
“I felt good coming on. Everything has happened so fast for me and it’s just my second day at the club.
“I have a lot of work to do, to create a chemistry with my new team-mates quickly. But hopefully we’ll get that and everything will go well.
“I feel fit and ready to start on Wednesday night but that doesn’t depend on me, you have to ask the coach for his decision in the next game.
“I don’t want to talk about the mood in the locker room right now.
“But we have games every two or three days here so there’s no time to look back – we just have to look forward and fight for the points coming up.”
