Top-flight move a family affair for winger Alan

- By Alison McConnell sport@sundaypost.com

Ayr United winger Alan Forrest has set his sights on playing against a few familiar faces next season.

The younger brother of Celtic and Scotland international James, Forrest has signed a pre-contract agreement with Livingston.

And while he admitted that it will be strange to line up against his brother for the first time in his career, he is also determined to help the Honest Men join him in the top flight before he leaves to represent Gary Holt’s side.

“It will be good to play against James but it will be a bit weird as well,” he said. “We have never played against one another.

“Here at Ayr we have played against a few top-flight teams but Celtic have never been one of them so it will something new to play against him.

“I am still focused on Ayr for the rest of the season. I want us to finish as high as we can. Dundee United look as though they will win it but I don’t see why we can’t go up through the play-offs so the focus now is about finishing as high as we can.

“I am glad to still be here and helping us towards the end of the season.”

Meanwhile, Partick Thistle keeper Scott Fox has insisted that he would be content not to claim a clean sheet at all this season so long as it meant that Thistle could start winning games.

The Jags have conceded in every league game this season – a Forrest penalty for Ayr United at Firhill on Friday night denied them the chance to move off the bottom of the championship table – but Fox has insisted there is no panic.

“If you keep clean sheets you don’t lose games,” said the keeper.

“We just want to win games. I would take a 5-4 if it meant that we got three points.

“That is the main thing for us. “We can’t panic – we need to keep things calm but there are 15 games left and we know we need to take as many points from them as we possibly can.

“Our next game is at Dundee and they could still be dragged into it because it’s a tight league and, if you can put a run together, it would make a big difference but our main job at the moment is to get that next three points.”
