Fringe benefits: Hairstyles that are sure to be your crowning glory

-

Whether you love Claudia Winkleman’s long, messy style or prefer Anna Wintour’s blunt, sleek cut, transforming your hair with a fringe has never been more popular.

Here, hairdresser Hannah shares her expert advice on the styles, cuts and textures that work for everyone.

The shaggy cut

One of the most on-trend looks for the coming months, Hannah says laid-back hair is easy to achieve.

She explained: “The shaggy cut is something you’ll see everywhere in 2020, worn on short and long hair.

“The fringe itself should sit slightly shorter in the middle and arch round, complimented by modern layers around the face for those shaggy vibes.

“Style with texturising spray for a rock ’n’ roll finish.”

The long bang

Hannah said: “Long bangs are also one to ask for next time you visit your salon.

“A long fringe is a good choice if your overall hair is long and you want to elongate your face shape.

“Have a thorough consultation with your hair stylist, to make sure you choose a fringe that is best suited to your face shape.”

The Bardot

Effortlessly chic and timeless, Brigitte Bardot’s hairstyle is perfect for women who don’t want to commit to a short, blunt fringe before changing their mind after a few months.

“A Brigitte Bardot-inspired fringe is perfect for those worried about committing to the cut full-time,” explained Hannah.

“Worn full, in curtains or pulled out of your pony to look effortlessly cool, this style is also complimentary if you have an oblong face as it can sit around your cheek bones.

“Plus, it is extra lowmaintenance as you can just tuck it behind your ears when it starts to grows longer.”

French fancy

Looking to try a hairstyle that’s a little bit different? Hannah says a choppy cut is only for the bold.

She said: “If you are feeling daring, especially if you already have your hair cut into a bob, an extra short choppy fringe will give you French girl chic and a certain je ne sais quoi.

“It’s a style worn by actress Taylor LaShae – you’ve definitely seen pictures of her on Pinterest if you’ve searched for bob inspo!”

Keeping it fresh

Hannah said: “Dry shampoo is your best friend – a fringe falls forward on to the face so it has a tendency to get oily quicker, and you’ll also be tempted to touch it a lot at first!

“You can also pin your hair back and wash your bangs separately, restyle, and it’ll look good as new.” As told to Alice Hinds
