City fall further behind leaders in title race

Edinburgh City are now 10 points adrift after sharing two goals at Cowdenbeat­h.

Cowden hit the bar in five minutes as Kris Renton’s header glanced off the woodwork on its way over.

Five minutes later, David Cox’s low shot was blocked.

The hosts took the lead in 37 minutes when Cox beat two defenders and sent a low ball across the face of the goal for Renton to turn the ball home.

City got the equaliser 10 minutes from time through an angled 20-yarder from Mark Laird.

Cove showed their intent from the start of the game when Rory McAllister struck the post in the opening minute.

Mitch Megginson opened the scoring for the visitors in the 33rd minute, showing composure to pick his spot.

Cove extended their lead in the 42nd minute when a Broque Watson cross eluded the home defence and Blair Yule played the ball back across for McAllister to prod home.

After the resumption, the referee awarded Cove a penalty for handball after the ball struck Jordan Armstrong and Megginson stepped up to dispatch the ball into the net.

On 80 minutes, Stenny’s Gary Harkins was sent from the dugout for dissent.

Queen’s ParK 2 annan atH 0 MacLean (19), Kouider-Aissa (pen 27)

Queen’s opened the scoring when Peter Grant released Ross MacLean and he sent the ball past Alex Mitchell and into the far corner.

It was almost 2-0 soon after as David Galt let fly, but his shot flashed wide.

Queen’s did double their advantage on 27 minutes when Galt was tripped by Mitchell and Salim Kouider-Aissa converted from the spot.

Galt and then sub Joffrey Lidouren had opportunit­ies to put the game to bed for the hosts, but their efforts were blocked.

Annan gave Queen’s one final scare when sub Christian Nade headed towards goal, but Willie Muir saved.

alBion roVers 1 elgin citY 2 Albion Rovers – Scally (3); Elgin City – Omar (2), Hester (6)

Elgin scored after just two minutes when Rabin Omar beat Ryan Goodfellow with a low 20-yard shot.

Albion’s Daniel Scally headed the equaliser just a minute later.

Declan Byrne and Scally came close again before Kane Hester put Elgin back in front when he met Brian Cameron’s cross to thump the ball in off the bar.

Nick McAllister came close to an equaliser with a 25th-minute header and, 10 minutes later, keeper Tom McHale was down quickly to save from Byrne.

Albion’s Ouzy See came closest with a terrific effort with 10 minutes left which thumped against the post.

The Binos had the better of the opening 45 minutes, but missed three good opportunit­ies towards the end of the half through Dominic Docherty (twice) and Dylan Bikey.

However, the visitors made the vital breakthrou­gh nine minutes into the second half when Bikey rifled a great leftfoot drive into the bottom corner.

Stirling kept up the pressure and wrapped up the points in style six minutes from time when full-back James Creaney blasted the ball home.
