Hair today, glam tomorrow: Your locks needn’t suffer in lockdown
With salons closed, how do we keep our hair under control? Well, it turns out lockdown is the perfect time to get your hair into tip top condition, according to Suzie McGill, artistic director at Rainbow Room International and Schwarzkopf UK ambassador.
Dry this
“Start with washing and drying,” Suzie said.“I recommend a really good moisturising shampoo, a treatment, and a leave-in conditioner.
“Try to air dry your hair to see what kind of result you get. If you prefer a hairdryer, always use a heat protection spray to protect your hair and use a hairdryer with a nozzle.
“Once you’ve finished drying, blast your hair with the cold setting, as this eliminates frizz and keeps hair looking smooth.”
Forget the scissors
When it comes to fringes, Suzie suggests it’s best to leave the scissors in the hands of the professionals.
“I wouldn’t recommend anyone cutting their own hair, not even me!” she said. “But this really is a great opportunity to work with a different style of fringe.
“If you have a more solid, fuller fringe, you can style the front more to the side it wants to sit best. Dry from side to side and concentrate on the root area, as this will give you more control.
“A middle parting is also great to experiment with and looks good on those with a bob, long bob or mediumlength hair. If you have a longer side fringe or middle part,Velcro rollers add a bit of volume and pull up the length and make you feel more glam!
Grow on
“Growing your fringe out can take time, so it’s a great time to experiment with hairstyle, including using hair pins and headbands to disguise your fringe and keep it out of your face.
“When your fringe does start to grow a bit, brush it into a side fringe and this will blend into the rest of your hair.”
Looking beachy
“Try a bouncy blow dry or using your flat iron to create a really loose, beachy wave,” she said.
“My favourite look this season is super natural hair.To create this, dig out your old diffuser.
“For short hair, a slicked back hairstyle or quiff will disguise a grown-out haircut.

“When that day comes we imagine our clients will be banging the doors down - and we will be ready with a host of new ideas and techniques to welcome them.”
