Celts set to appoint former boss Strachan’s son to coaching role

Celtic are poised to put another Strachan in their dugout.

Former Scotland boss Gordon was manager of the Hoops from 2005 to 2009.

And for the first two years of his time in charge, he had the club’s current boss Neil Lennon as a key member of his side.

After getting off to the worst possible start with a 5-0 defeat to Artmedia Bratislava, he recovered in style.

He led Celtic to three consecutive league titles and the last-16 of the Champions League in a campaign that included a famous victory over AC Milan.

Now, over a decade later, the

Premiership champions are set to appoint to his son, Gavin, on to the coaching staff.

They are ready to install him as first-team coach as a direct replacement for Damien Duff, who was part of a three-man management team with Lennon and John Kennedy.

He left the club to become assistant manager of the Republic of Ireland, with whom he won 100 caps.

Then, he told of having to move because of family reasons and of his huge regret at missing the chance to be part of 10-in-a-row.

Gavin Strachan, 41, currently works as the assistant manager at English League One side Peterborough United. Previously he had a stint as assistant boss at Doncaster Rovers.

A midfielder, like his father, in his playing days he represented Scotland at Under-21 level.

The possibility of Peterhead playing games in Aberdeen, Gavin Strachan’s place of birth, has meanwhile been mooted by the League One club’s general manager Martin Johnston.

“Closed-door is not really a possibility for Peterhead from a financial point of view, even with the much-appreciated grant funding from Mr Anderson,” he said.

“There hasn’t been a great debate on the potential for hubs.

“If a particular ground was to satisfy the social distancing requirements. Pittodrie is on our doorstep and our average crowd of 700-800 I’m sure could be accommodated in the south
