Eagle gives chick claws for thought

-

A stunning shot of sea eagles captures a feathered family fallout in mid-air.

Photographer Jamie Scott caught the moment a male white-tailed sea eagle decided he’d had enough of his cheeky chick’s antics. With one fell swoop the angry father grabs hold of the startled chick to shake some sense into her.

Jamie, 30, a camera shop manager and amateur photographer from Newark, Nottinghamshire, took the picture on a boat trip off the coast of Jura. He said: “There was a young eagle eating on the shore and I could see an adult eagle watching over in a tree, in the distance. Then the young one took off and it was met by another adult on the other side and they had this tussle. It was awesome.”

RSPB Mull officer Dave Sexton said: “The chick will have been hassling the parents for weeks, always grabbing food off them, screeching at them constantly for more and this time the male eagle’s patience has snapped.”

The adult sea eagle in the photo has a black ring on his left leg. He was ringed, aged six weeks old as a chick himself, in a nest near Oban.
