Duke’s summer holiday to go ahead

-

Prince Charles will take his annual holiday at the Castle Of Mey later this month, sources say.

The prince, known as the Duke of Rothesay in Scotland, has been visiting his grandmother’s Caithness home every year since she died in 2002, to spend a week there.

Normally the prince attends the Mey Games held on the first Saturday of August, but they were cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic.

But locals say he is expected later this month, with one saying: “He will be here for the 25th.”

Earlier this year Charles and Camilla faced criticism for travelling from London to Birkhall, their Scottish home, during the lockdown.

While there the heir to the throne tested positive for Covid-19, though his symptoms were described as “mild”.

The couple were forced to remain at the Aberdeenshire home for several weeks, during which time Charles gave an interview in which he admitted to missing family members, and wanting to give them a hug.

Locals expect the Queen, who is currently shielding at Windsor Castle, to arrive at Balmoral on August 1.

Although the 94-year-old monarch has been shielding with Prince Philip, who is 99, she has let it be known she’ll be at Balmoral if it were at all possible.
