Expert: Beatles fans could find fab fortunes

Beatles fans have been urged to search their homes for Fab Four memorabilia – because it could be worth a fab fortune.

A rare Beatles programme from two Scottish concerts signed by all the band is set to sell for thousands at auction in America this week.

The vintage “haircut cover” programme from the concerts at the ABC Cinema in Edinburgh and the Odeon in Glasgow, from April 29 and 30, 1964, has an estimated selling price of nearly £14,000 – but Beatles historian and author Ken McNab believes the winning bid could far exceed that amount. “These don’t come up very often, and having all four signatures really adds to the value. That estimation seems quite low and I think it will likely go for much more than that,” said Ken, who has written two acclaimed books about the band. The 12-page programme features a light blue cover with an artist’s rendition of John, Paul, Ringo and George’s mop top haircuts. The signatures, which were obtained at the Glasgow date, are inside, next to photos of the group.

Ken continued: “Beatles autographs and memorabilia continue to increase in value. Some programmes from US shows, like the Shea Stadium gig, would go for a six-figure sum if signed by all four. It might be worth Beatles fans of a certain vintage having a rummage through their cupboards. They could strike gold.”

Ken added: “These shows came at the height of Beatlemania. Whether anyone could hear their sets, which would only have lasted for about 30 minutes, is a different matter.”
