Bell: Huw will return to his sparkling best

Glasgow Warriors centre Huw Jones can “100%” get back to the sparkling form that saw him burst onto the scene with 10 tries in his first 14 Tests with Scotland.

That is the view of new Glasgow attack coach Jonny Bell, who believes the Scotstoun outfit have it in them to deal a blow to Edinburgh Rugby’s PRO14 play-off hopes on Saturday when the 2019/20 season resumes.

Bell feels 26-year-old Jones – who was a revelation for Scotland between 2016 and 2018 before struggling for game time and form with club and country – will have a key part to play in the Warriors’ new chapter under head coach Danny Wilson.

“I think Huw can 100% get back to his best,” stated Bell, who has moved north from Gloucester.

“I’ve been even more impressed with him than I was watching him on TV, now that I’m up close and coaching him.

“His attitude has been great and he’s in great shape.

“His footwork, skill set, shortkicking and passing games are all excellent. I hope he has a good end to this season and start to next because he’s a large part of what makes Glasgow dangerous.

“As with every player, there are things that he has to work at and improve on. But it’s about focusing on what he can do brilliantly, and actually enhancing those things.

“If we, as a coaching group, can get the best out of him, then that makes Glasgow a very dangerous animal.

“Saturday is a derby but, first and foremost, the boys haven’t played rugby in a number of months and they’re desperate to get back on to the pitch.

“That’s their job, that’s what they love doing.”
