Forrest says mix of new coaches is perfect match

New Hearts assistant manager Gordon Forrest insists the players will benefit from the new dugout team all having different strengths.

Forrest and fellow number two Lee McCulloch were reunited with boss Robbie Neilson on Wednesday after the trio masterminded Dundee United’s Championship title success last season.

The coaches had been working for nearly two weeks with the squad before the Gorgie outfit were controversially ordered to stop training by the Joint Response Group on Thursday.

But, when the players reassemble for training, Forrest is confident the synergy he has with Neilson and McCulloch will provide the foundation for an immediate return to the Premiership.

He said: “It’s great to be here. It’s a massive club with great support behind it and it’s fantastic to work with Robbie and Lee again.

“We’ve got a balance with personality and character and different strengths.

“I think we have different roles within the team and we understand those roles, which is important, but I think we’ve got a mix of everything.

“We do the organisational side together, and when it comes to the delivery there is a mix to that as well. It works well.

“We formed a good partnership at our previous club and hopefully we can do the same here at Hearts.”

Forrest admits he could have no complaints about the squad’s collective commitment from their opening days of pre-season training.

He added: “The boys have been brilliant. There is a lot of energy and enthusiasm and lockdown has probably brought that out in them.

“They’re glad to be back on the training pitch and it has been excellent so far.”
