THE BIG QUESTIONS

-

Is Linus Roache, who plays DA Mike Cutter in the US series Law & Order any relation to our own William Roach, Corrie’s Ken Barlow? – P

He is his son and, keeping it in the family, even played Peter Barlow, Ken’s son, for a couple of episodes of Coronation Street in the mid-’70s.

He also appeared on the cobbles in 2010 as Lawrence Cunningham, Ken’s long-lost son.

Most recently, Linus has been in three seasons of US drama Homeland,

I saw an interesting item about Point Roberts, which is in the US, but you have to travel through Canada to reach it. Can you tell me more? – S

Point Roberts sits at the southern tip of the Tsawwassen peninsula in Canada’s British Columbia on the Pacific coast. To reach it from the US mainland means a 25-mile drive through Canada.

In the 19th Century, the border between the two countries was agreed as the 49th parallel, leaving Point Roberts cut off from America. Today, the area has a population of just over 1,300.

In 1792 British explorer George Vancouver named the area after Henry Roberts, a naval officer.

Looking at the moon on a recent night-time stroll, I began to wonder how many moons there are in the solar system. – C.

Moons come in all shapes and sizes, and there are more than 200 in our solar system.

Most probably formed from the discs of gas and dust circulating around planets in the early days of the solar system’s formation, though some are “captured” objects that formed elsewhere and fell into orbit around larger worlds.
