David should not let his head go down

-

The inclusion of Southampton’s Che Adams in the Scotland squad is a positive move.

Now we just have to get him capped on Thursday evening against Austria, and we can all relax.

The bottom line is that you can never have enough strikers in your squad.

It’s a position where you can never have enough quality as it’s where you win games of football.

We also have Lyndon Dykes in the squad.

Sure, his goalscoring stats for QPR might not be as good as he would have liked.

But he comes alive when he pulls on the Scotland jersey – and that’s what matters.

His performance against Serbia in the play-off game was first-class, and he can replicate that in the upcoming World Cup ties, for sure.

While Adams has been given the nod, David Turnbull has been overlooked by Steve.

Many observers have found that very surprising, and that’s understandable, given the quality he has and the consistency he has shown this season for Celtic.

But he can still force way into the squad for the Euros Finals in the summer.

He must use this exclusion as a motivation. David must not let his head go down.

And there is no better platform to show what he is all about than in the game against Rangers today.

Everybody will be watching, and David can produce at this level.

Beyond that, he still has five league games to go and a Scottish Cup campaign.

If he has a high level of consistency there, then Steve will find it hard to ignore him.

But Steve does already have some first-class options in the midfield area, and it will take something exceptional to break that up.

David’s club-mate, James Forrest, is now back from his long-term injury.

He has been a top-team player for over a decade, and has really excelled in the past four or five years.

He will also want to force his way back into Steve Clarke’s squad in time for the Euros.
