Boss Rice hails scorer Kyle, the comeback kid

- By Graeme Macpherson SPORT@SUNDAYPOST.COM

Hamilton Accies boss Brian Rice praised teenager Kyle Munro for rebounding from a poor performance last weekend to salvage a draw against St Mirren.

The substitute’s header in the final minute of the match helped his team salvage a point that could yet prove crucial come the end of the season.

Rice felt Munro had been at fault for the goals in the previous loss to Livingston but praised the teenager’s spirit for putting it behind him to make a telling intervention, his equaliser cancelling out Jamie McGrath’s first-half penalty for St Mirren.

The manager said: “The young lad Kyle who scored the goal was possibly at fault for a goal or two last week, but it just shows you the character of the kid.

“He has come on today, put in a fantastic cross that we could have scored from, and then got the equaliser.

“That’s what I want: people not taking things personally, just coming in and working hard.

“That kid typifies a week in football. “I spoke to him and showed him where he went wrong last week. It is my job to make the young ones better and it has obviously worked, eh?”

Accies still fell to the bottom of the table as results elsewhere went against them. But Rice warned his players would keep battling all the way to the last game of the season.

He added: “I think that never-saydie spirit is what I get from the boys every week. It is in our DNA here. I am absolutely delighted with them.

“We took chances, went for it, and I don’t think anyone could grudge us a point.

“We changed the shape a wee bit at half-time. I felt we were a wee bit tentative in the first half and David Moyo helped enormously with the physicality.

“We lacked that against their strong centre-halves and he gave us a focal point.

“The point keeps us fighting. I know the boys will keep going. We don’t know what will happen, but I think everyone knows we will be fighting right to the end.”
