The Kamara ruling was no surprise to me

-

Given UEFA’s track record, I’m not overly surprised about their findings after the investigation into the Sparta Prague targeting Glen Kamara in their recent game against Rangers.

They found “insufficient evidence of racism or discriminatory conduct”, and dropped the case.

Just goes to show they cannot be counted on when it really matters.

Rangers and Celtic are back in Europa League action this midweek, and both have excellent opportunities to kick-start their campaigns .

Ange Postecoglou’s players have to take on Ferencvaros on Tuesday at Parkhead, before Brondby visit Ibrox on Thursday.

Both clubs will have targeted victories to get some points on the board after losing their opening two games.

For sure, in order to have a realistic chance of progressing to the knock-out stages beyond Christmas, the Old Firm both have to win.

With full houses expected, the backing of the home supporters could make all the difference.

Captains Callum McGregor and James Tavernier will be spurred on when they lead their teams out. It’s then up to the players to deliver and do their bit.

From Joe Hart, all the way through to Kyogo up top, Celtic can’t afford to fail.

Rangers know it’s the same for them. They will need to deliver the kind of performances they have produced consistently on this stage in the past three years under Steven Gerrard.

A defeat for either side will leave it almost impossible to recover from. A draw keeps them hanging in there, but it would be far from ideal.

So let’s hope we are praising both displays at the end of the week, and looking forward to the rest of the Europa League campaign with renewed optimism.

I’m confident the Old Firm can record the results that they need.
