Location
In the suburb of Doonfoot, just a short drive from Ayr town centre, the beach, and Burns Cottage, it’s the perfect pit stop if you’re in the area for a day out.
First impressions
This was our second attempt at visiting as the last time it was fully booked. And it was definitely worth the wait. A lovely cosy, homely restaurant in a beautiful building, just what you need at this time of year. The beer garden looks lovely, but sadly it’s not a day for sitting outside!
Service
A smiling waitress shows us to our table in the conservatory, talks us through the menu and is very patient and attentive with the small children. Food arrives promptly and piping hot – and our every request is catered for. All in all, a big thumbs up.
Menu
The menu is quite extensive, which means there’s something for everyone. From pizza and pasta and pies and mash to steak, salad and seafood – and a separate menu for vegans and vegetarians – all tastes are catered for. The dessert menu looks delicious, if you have any room left!
Taste
We skip starters and plump for pasta, ordering lasagne and cheesy macaroni. The lasagne comes literally swimming in a cheese sauce. It’s like nothing I’ve ever seen before – but every bite is absolutely delicious. With fries on the side, it’s very filling. My fellow diners demolish the mac and cheese in record time. Apparently it’s the best they’ve ever tasted!
Ambience
Cosy, warm and relaxed.
Price
Very reasonable. Our bill for two adults and two children with drinks came in at just over £50. Bargain!
