Yes, you tan! Easy ways to bronze your body until the sun returns

St Moriz global tanning expert Jordan Cook shares the secret of getting an all-over glow this winter

- As told to Tracey Bryce

It’s that time again. The summer sun has gone and the only means of getting a golden glow is to fake it. Self tanning can be a tricky process, but expert Jordan Cook has kindly given us her top tips on how to bronze those troublesome areas...

Brush to it

When it comes to tanning your back, there’s always a spot you can’t reach. But Jordan has the perfect solution:“Grab your hairbrush, grab your tanning mitt and secure it over the brush with a hair bobble around the handle.

“Holding the handle, place your tan on the mitt, reach around to your back and get to work. The length of the handle gives you that added security to get the job done perfectly.”

Drops zone

The face can also be a tricky area, so try serum drops.

“You can continue with your skin care routine whilst also giving yourself an everyday glow,” says Jordan.

“Tanning serum drops are also perfect for those who have acne prone skin. Simply add 4-6 drops into your everyday moisturiser, mix it together and apply to the face and decolletage.

“Use underneath your make-up.This way your tan can develop throughout the day or night it’s your choice, and never lose its glow. You could even go make-up free.”

Or try face mists.“Simply mist all over the face and decolletage, then go about your day,” says Jordan.“It sits perfectly underneath make-up, or on top.

“The perfectly fine actuator means you will simply feel kissed so gently by the mist that you won’t feel any urge of wetness or to pat dry.”

Four-step plan

When it comes to tanning hands and feet, Jordan says avoiding the tie-dye look is key.

“Hands and feet are tricky spots to self tan, and some of the toughest areas to get right.”

But it is actually do-able in four easy steps.

Micro-exfoliate:

Concentrate on your knuckles, either by lathering up a little shower gel and buffing with an old, soft toothbrush, or if trying to lift off old tan residue, then use a professional self tan remover.

Condition your skin: An oil free moisturiser is perfect for creating an even canvas. Concentrate on knuckles and heels here, as they’re naturally drier.

Protect your palms: Use a tanning mitt. For extra protection,Vaseline acts as a super effective barrier cream for palms, just apply an even layer before applying your tan and wipe away afterwards.

Use a make-up brush: With a synthetic brush, apply cream tan. Just pump a tiny amount of tan on to your brush and buff in circular motions until a seamless coverage.
