Whether it’s a snap of you posing at the top of an impressive staircase or a candid shot whilst gazing at an iconic painting, art museums make the ideal backdrop for the perfect Instagram post. But which are the most photoworthy locations in the UK?

With searches for “art museums near me” increasing by 90% in the past 12 months, it’s clear many of us are eager to get back to exploring our creative sides by immersing ourselves in art, history, and culture.

New research from SINGULART has revealed which art museums and galleries have been Instagrammed the most across the UK.

Whether you’re interested in gazing at a famous Monet or Van Gogh, or contemporary art and fashion is more your thing, London is home to an array of galleries and museums to explore, with many of them featuring in the top 12. The Tate Modern took first place with 1.18 million posts on Instagram, followed by the British Museum in second place with 595,000 posts and the Saatchi Gallery with 356,300 posts.

Outside of the English capital, the Yorkshire Sculpture Park is revealed to be one of the most Instagrammed sites, home to a mixture of unique exhibitions including work by Damien Hirst.

Meanwhile, Tate Liverpool and the National Museum of Scotland, where a range of contemporary and classical artworks can be found, also make an appearance on the list, with the National Museum of Scotland clinching 12th place, with 34,900 posts.

From the wonders of the natural world and world cultures to science and technology and art, design and fashion to archaeology, this gorgeous gallery in the Edinburgh certainly has plenty to post about.

Marion Sailhen, chief curator at SINGULART, said: “After more than 18 months of lockdowns and restrictions across the nation, it’s understandable that many of us are eager to get out and explore Britain’s many art museums and galleries. The fact that they act as the perfect location for an impressive photo to share with our followers is just a bonus.

“The report reveals just how many amazing sites there are to visit in London, an infamous hotspot of art and culture, however there are also some entrants to our list that sit outside the capital, revealing just how much there is to explore.”
