Australia man marking

- By Tom Cary

Israel Folau

Did not get a try but was instrumental in more than one of his team’s scores. Ran a great support line for Hodge try.

7 Stephen Moore (capt)

Led from the front, scoring the opening try after 11 minutes when he managed to finish off a driving line-out.

7 Dane Haylett-Petty

Constant threat. Drew the foul from Biggar which earned the Wales fly-half a yellow. Brilliant tackle on Cuthbert to prevent a Wales try.

8 Sekope Kepu

Gave away a couple of penalties, one when he launched himself shoulder first into Lee which possibly should have earned a yellow card.

7 Tevita Kuridrani

Another Australia back who proved too hot to handle. Playing in the centre, made a number of powerful bursts and

8 Rory Arnold

Excellent partnership in the second row with Coleman, at one point combining to release Foley for a try.

8 Reece Hodge

Brilliant first-half try when he came in on an angle and then exchanged passes with Folau. Try of the match.

8 Adam Coleman

Together with Arnold, comprehensively outplayed Davies and Charteris in the engine room.

7 Henry Speight

One of Australia’s quieter players. Did not see as much ball as his fellow backs but threatened when he did.

7 David Pocock

Wales’ failure to secure any ball or phase possession owed much to Pocock’s industry.

8 Bernard Foley

But for a few missed kicks, he would have been a 10. Mesmeric display. Had lots of front foot ball to work with, but so intelligent with the ball.

9 Michael Hooper

Typically rampaging performance from the Australia openside, denying Wales any momentum. Was sold a dummy by Tipuric, though.

8 Nick Phipps

Flattened by Moriarty at one point. Made a few darting runs but did not appear to be instrumental in Australia’s brilliance.

6 Lopeti Timani

Probably the only Australia player who was upstaged by his Wales counterpart.

7 Scott Sio

One barnstorming run up the middle aside, was not hugely noticeable. Replaced by James Slipper after an hour.

7 Replacements

Scott Fardy (Pocock ht), Allan Alaalatoa (Kepu 64), Rob Simmonds (Arnold 65-75), James Slipper (Sio 68), Nick Frisby (Phipps 71), Tolu Latu (Moore 76), Quade Cooper (Foley 76), Naivalu (Speight 76).
