Wales man marking

- By James Corrigan

Leigh Halfpenny

Missed a penalty and then fumbled a high ball, which summed up Wales’s capitulation when they were on top. 5

Ken Owens

Simply for his exhaustive firsthalf effort, it was hard on the hooker that he was on the losing team. The question remains: is he big enough for Test rugby? 6 5

George North

Not a good day for the wing. His scoring run of tries in the last five Six Nations games ended with a huge question mark left over his defence. 4

Tomas Francis

Took big steps forward against England – and just as big steps sideways yesterday afternoon. Could well lose his tighthead role to Samson Lee.

Jonathan Davies

His break was the heart-racing moment and, in other situations, he would have been the hero. But, that’s sport, and he was nothing better than average. 6

Jake Ball

It was always likely that the Scarlets lock would fail to live up to his remarkable shift against England. The effort was still there but he was replaced and could lose his spot. 6

Scott Williams

Defensively was immense, but he is there to lend more creativity to this Welsh backline and that simply did not happen. Jamie Roberts is lurking. 6

Alun W Jones (c)

Errors at the start and then some questionable decisions, particularly not taking the points when 19-13 down. Lions captaincy claims now in doubt. 6

Liam Williams

Took his try as he takes every one of his tries – with class. There were mistakes elsewhere but, with his skills, the clamour will grow to select him at full-back. 6

Sam Warburton

In the first half, Warburton looked at the absolute height of his powers. Maybe the tank was emptied because the second half got away from him. 6

Dan Biggar

Seemed to have cemented down the No 10 position against England. Had his whiny head on this time and will face pressure from young Sam Davies. 5

Justin Tipuric

His try-saving tackle and turnover on Huw Jones at end of the first half should be shown over and over. But he was nowhere near as influential in the second half. 6

Rhys Webb

Quick thinking for the quick tap which led to first try in a first half in which he was at his very best. But failed to put down the try and that will hurt. 7

Ross Moriarty

After his bonecrushing heroics against England, this was a crash to earth for the backrower. Never less than committed, however, and is only 23. 5

Rob Evans

Early problems in the scrum and although he was again noticeable in his carrying skills, this was a step backwards for the Welsh front row. 6

Replacements

Wales made plenty of changes as they tried to claw their way back in the second half, with Luke Charteris prominent, but momentum was taken away from them by an outstanding Scotland display.
