Chelsea man marking

- By Ben Rumsby

Thibaut Courtois

Bailed out twice by Gary Cahill and might have done better for the goal but also helped keep Chelsea in it at times.

Cesar Azpilicueta

Exposed early on by poor performances in front of him by Victor Moses, Nemanja Matic and N’Golo Kanté. Otherwise his usual solid self.

David Luiz

Again, not afforded the protection in front of him that has helped transform his reputation since he rejoined Chelsea.

Gary Cahill

Heroic clearances off the line, including from Özil’s dinked finish. Also made a host of other blocks whenever Arsenal surged forward.

Victor Moses

Unforgivable second yellow card for diving, having been booked only minutes earlier. Also missed Chelsea’s best chance.

N’Golo Kanté

Uncharactistically slack early on, the double Footballer of the Year eventually woke up and helped Chelsea gain a foothold in the game.

Nemanja Matic

Decision to select him ahead of Cesc Fabregas backfired spectacularly. Static and ponderous before being withdrawn for the Spaniard.

Marcos Alonso

Did not manage to assert himself going forward down the left and wasted a decent free-kick chance at the end of the first half.

Pedro

Chelsea’s best player. Should have hit the target when threaded in by Eden Hazard but otherwise lively and at the heart of their attacking game.

Diego Costa

Scored just when his frustration seemed set to get the better of him on what could be his final match for Chelsea, having been shackled by Mertesacker.

Eden Hazard

Gradually eased his way into the game and danced his way around the Arsenal defence but not at his best when Chelsea needed him.
