My tips for Ascot Churchill to reign

- Marcus Armytage

TUESDAY RIBCHESTER will not be much of a price in the Queen Anne but, having won the Lockinge, he can now go on to become the dominant force among European milers. MISS TEMPLE CITY looks a good each-way bet in the race at 33-1. I will not be looking any further than last year’s Queen Mary winner, LADY AURELIA, in the King’s Stand. The St James’s Palace looks a rematch between Churchill and Barney Roy. I expect CHURCHILL, who only does enough, to confirm the 2,000 Guineas form over his fresher rival. Richard Hannon’s DE BRUYNE HORSE has a top chance in the Coventry.

WEDNESDAY Jack Hobbs looked very smart in Dubai but he had his ground there and may not find it quite soft enough in the Prince of Wales’s Stakes so the value may be with the ever reliable HIGHLAND REEL. HEARTACHE, an impressive winner at Bath, and US challenger HAPPY LIKE A FOOL are two to watch in the Queen Mary. EL VIP and GEORGE WILLIAM are my two lottery tickets for the Hunt Cup.

THURSDAY Order Of St George is out to retain his Gold Cup title but BIG ORANGE will lay it down to him from the front and last year’s third, Sheikhzayedroad, will not be far away. For those who like a long shot the St Leger winner Harbour Law is over-priced. Keep an eye on Richard Fahey’s IT DON’T COME EASY in whatever he goes for (Norfolk looks likely) while the massive ALPHA CENTAURI should go close in the Albany. The step up to a mile and a half should bring out the best in MORI in the Ribblesdale, while RONALD R looks the pick in the Britannia.

FRIDAY Aidan O’Brien’s WINTER will not be much of a price in the Coronation Stakes but she looks the banker of the meeting. In the Commonwealth Cup, the front three in the market, Caravaggio, HARRY ANGEL and Blue Point, all look very rapid. There is a strong chance the Queen will get on the winner’s board for the week with MAINSTREAM in the Duke of Edinburgh.

SATURDAY The Queen’s best chance, however, is DARTMOUTH, one of the most genuine horses in training, who is going for back-to-back wins in the Hardwicke Stakes. James Fanshawe often pops up with a big winner at Ascot and THE TIN MAN can do it for him this year in the Diamond Jubilee. DANZENO is a good each-way shot in the Wokingham.
