Rugby League

Holders Hull turned on the style to book an immediate return to Wembley with a resounding 43-24 Ladbrokes Challenge Cup semi-final rout of Leeds. Urged on by threequart­ers of the sell-out crowd of 14,526 at Doncaster’s Keepmoat Stadium, the Black and Whites ran in seven tries to four to seal a 16th final appearance. Hull will face either Salford or Wigan in the final on August 26.

Swimming

Ben Proud and James Guy both won bronze medals in the 50m freestyle and 100m butterfly, respective­ly, at the world championsh­ips in Budapest, races both won by Caeleb Dressel of the United States in finals separated by 34 minutes. Dressel was then part of the winning team in the 4x100m freestyle relay, becoming the first swimmer to win three golds in one night at the championsh­ips.

Tennis

Kyle Edmund reeled off nine of the last 10 games to beat top-seeded Jack Sock 6-4 6-1 and reach his first semi-final of 2017, and third of his career, at the BB&T Atlanta Open. The Yorkshirem­an will face Ryan Harrison for a place in the final.

Cricket

Gloucester­shire suffered their third no-result and second complete wash-out of the NatWest T20 Blast season when play was abandoned after the toss had been taken against Essex in Chelmsford last night. A further downpour ended all hopes of a game.

Golf

Karrie Webb and Sei Young Kim battled brutal conditions at Dundonald Links to share the lead on six under par heading into the final round of the Aberdeen Asset Management Ladies Scottish Open.
