England’s Te’o injures ankle in Worcester victory
Ben Te’o hobbled off with an ankle injury in Worcester Warriors’ 30-20 victory over Brive in yesterday’s European Challenge Cup Pool Five clash at Sixways.
The England centre looked in discomfort after being tackled by prop Vivien Devisme.
Head coach Carl Hogg admitted the injury was a “concern” with England’s autumn internationals less than a month away. Te’o will undergo further tests to determine exactly how long he will be out. “Ben got his ankle caught underneath him in the tackle,” Hogg said. “I have not got a medical update yet so until we get the facts I can’t really expand. We will assess it later on and then in the morning when we will get a better understanding of what we are working with.
“It is obviously a concern that he has come off three minutes into the game, but until we know what we are dealing with it is wrong to speculate.”
Worcester overcame the loss of Te’o to win after hooker Joe Taufete’e ran in a hat-trick of tries.
Worcester announced after the game that Alan Solomons, the former head coach of Edinburgh, is joining the coaching staff on a short-term basis.
Elsewhere, director of rugby Dean Richards admitted there was work to do after his side opened their European campaign with a hardfought bonus-point 32-27 victory over Pro14 side The win was particularly welcome for Toby Flood, who kicked 12 points on his first Falcons start since returning to the club.
“We were inaccurate in certain areas, perhaps we tried to push it a little too much at times,” said Richards. “The Dragons aren’t a bad side and we handed them a few chances.”
