New Zealand are out of the World Cup after Fiji edged a tryless game to book a World Cup semi-final date with Australia. The Kiwis, finalists in the last three tournaments, looked a shadow of their former selves and Fiji took advantage to claim a 4-2 victory in an error-strewn first meeting between the sides. Ronnie O’Sullivan’s superb run of form continued as he crushed Judd Trump 10-3 to win the Shanghai Masters. The 41-year-old won the English Open a fortnight ago and last week reached the final of the Champion of Champions event, but this was his finest performance of the three as he walked away with a cheque for £150,000. “My mind has been as good as it has ever been this week,” he said. “I wasn’t at my best today but mentally I was in the right place.”

Speed Skating

Elise Christie shook off her recent injury setbacks to win gold in the Short Track World Cup in Seoul. Christie, who was crowned a triple world champion in Rotterdam earlier this year, beat home favourite Choi Min-jeong to win the 500 metres title. The Livingston 27-year-old has been battling a thigh injury which has kept her chances of increasing her tally of major medals to a minimum. Christie said: “It’s nice to know when I’m not at my best I can still win – it was a nice boost after everything I’ve had to fight with this season.”

LeBron James scored 39 points and Kevin Love added 25 as the Cleveland Cavaliers won their fourth straight game, beating the Los Angeles Clippers 118-113 in overtime. Elsewhere, LaMarcus Aldridge scored 26 points as San Antonio Spurs beat Oklahoma City Thunder 104-1, having been 23 points behind.
