Spain man marking

- By Sam Dean

David de Gea

Under pressure in Spain but was lauded by the away fans after a terrific save from Rashford. Could do nothing about the opening goal.

7

Dani Carvajal

Skipped past Shaw to create the Spanish equaliser and was astute when called upon in defence. Blameless for aerial collision with Shaw.

7

Nacho

Comfortably beaten by the combination of a brilliant pass and the pace of Rashford for the England goal. Grew in confidence.

6

Sergio Ramos

Relentlessly booed but enjoyed the attention. Nerveless in possession and carried himself with that usual swashbuckling style.

6

Marcos Alonso

As he does for Chelsea, he carried the ball well and was also composed in advanced areas. Defensively solid, too.

6

Thiago Alcantara

What England would give for a player of Thiago’s technical ability. Unflappable in possession and produced a fine delivery to create Rodrigo’s goal.

7

Sergio Busquets

A more understated performance than his midfield colleagues but worked tirelessly to limit the space for Lingard and Alli.

6

Saul Niguez

Less of a technician than Thiago, but no less effective. Impressive in both boxes, scoring one minute and snuffing out a Kane chance the next.

7

Rodrigo

Created the first goal for Spain and scored the second with an artfully deft finish. Less involved after moving into a more central position.

7

Iago Aspas

Not as effective in attack as Rodrigo, or as helpful to his midfield as Isco. Probing runs gave Stones plenty to worry about.

5

Isco

Untouchable on the ball but rarely posed a genuine threat to the English back-line. Drifted inside to help Spain control proceedings.

6

Subs

Asensio (Aspas 68), Roberto (Alacantara, 80), Martinez (Alonso, 87).
