Manchester City player ratings
Ederson
Brazil goalkeeper came to City’s rescue time and again, making a number of good saves. His importance is hard to overemphasise. 8
Kyle Walker
The fastest City defender was repeatedly on the back foot as United broke at pace. Made two good recovery tackles but a tough day at the office. 6
John Stones
Another day to forget for England’s centre-back, who was uncomfortable defending against pace on the break before again getting injured. 4
Fernandinho
The best of a bad bunch at the back for City. It says a lot about the state of City’s defence that a 34-year-old is being asked to hold it together. 6
Angelino
Surprisingly given the nod at left-back, the Spaniard will have nightmares about Daniel James and United’s attack running at him. Out of his depth. 3
Kevin De Bruyne
Has been carrying City’s midfield too often and it was to the Belgian that City often looked for inspiration. One fine cross deserved a better finish. 7
Rodri
Excellent against Burnley in midweek, he had difficult time trying to stymie United on counter. Much better in his offensive than defensive work. 6
David Silva
Time has come for Phil Foden to get an extended run. Spaniard has been one of the Premier League’s great players but output has dropped off. 6
Bernardo Silva
After an outstanding season last year, his form has been disappointing. Failed to impose himself and conceded the penalty with a silly challenge. 5
Gabriel Jesus
Filling Aguero’s boots is a daunting prospect and there are still doubts the Brazilian is up to the task. Had to score when De Bruyne put a cross on a plate. 5
Raheem Sterling
His battle with Wan-Bissaka was one of the more intriguing sub-plots. He is always a threat but will not meet many defenders this dogged. 7

Bernardo 65); Ilkay Gundogan (for Rodri 86).
