Guinness Pro14 Conference A leaders Leinster continued their unbeaten season with a 36-12 bonus-point win over Cheetahs at the RDS. Newly capped Ireland hooker Ronan Kelleher scored his seventh try of the campaign, adding to scores by Will Connors and Michael Bent, with further tries coming from Rhys Ruddock and man of the match Connors. Edinburgh went back to the top of Conference B after putting in a strong defensive effort to stop Scarlets in a hard-fought 14-9 away win, wing Duhan van der Merwe scoring a try and creating a second for centre Mike Scott.

Britons John Gimson and Anna Burnet have been crowned world champions in the Nacra 17 class in Geelong. The pair, who were confirmed in the Olympic team last month, overcame a 16-point deficit in the final race to beat Australia’s Nathan and Haylee Outteridge by a single point. Burnet said: “The points were tight and we were just looking at the team in front and the team behind us. We did what we could and won the race, and just had to sit and wait to see where the Aussies crossed the line.” Charlotte Dobson and Saskia Tidey, who are also confirmed for Tokyo, took silver in the 49erFX class.

Snooker

Ronnie O’Sullivan lost 6-5 to Kyren Wilson in a thrilling Welsh Open semi-final in Cardiff. O’Sullivan won the opening frame and was never behind in the contest until the decisive 11th. The five-time world champion hit two century breaks but also uncharacteristically missed some simple pots, and Wilson took full advantage as he stayed in the contest before edging the final frame with a break of 59. “I think this is why people enjoy watching me because they never know when I’m beat or what’s going to happen,” Wilson told the BBC. Wilson will play either Shaun Murphy or Yan Bingtao in the final.
