ON MY PLATE
What’s cooking in Angela’s world this week
I always buy the best chicken I can, from The Butchery in Bermondsey, run by Nathan Mills and Ruth Siwinski (thebutcheryltd.com), who stock free-range Cotswold white and Cotswold gold chicken thighs from Fosse Meadows farm (you can also buy direct from fossemeadows.com), perfect for chicken puttanesca.
I went to a pop-up outdoor dining experience with chef Henry Harris (formerly of Racine restaurant) at the Chelsea Physic Garden. I had ham with celeriac, braised rabbit in mustard and a lovely crème caramel. It’s a beautiful setting, which is also running live music performances with antipasto picnics. Next, on Sept 17, they’re partnering with the Colchester Oyster Fishery to serve three courses outside. chelsea-physic-garden. co.uk/dining-experiences
This week my husband Neil and I ate at Cornerstone, Tom Brown’s restaurant in Hackney Wick, for the first time. We had his signature home-made toasted crumpets with buttery, spiced potted shrimps – he’s a talented young chef famous for fish dishes, and he makes a lot of his own cured seafood charcuterie. cornerstonehackney.com
Summer berries, blackcurrants and redcurrants, are coming to an end: I’ve enjoyed tucking into summer puddings over the past few weeks – but as autumn approaches, as much as I love peas and broad beans, I’m looking forward to girolle mushrooms and ceps coming into season for risottos, and serving figs simply with buffalo mozzarella and olive oil.
