I have just taken up bridge which is good for the brain and I belong to two book clubs

Ithink that one of the reasons I am so active is that I have had to be. I was widowed for the second time a few years ago and I have had to learn how to live on my own. You can either decide, “Well, I am an old lady now”, and give up, or you can just get on with your life, which I have. My rescue dog Chico really helped me through the dark times of the pandemic. Without fail, I take him for a walk for an hour in the morning and then 45 minutes in the late afternoon.

I have just taken up bridge, which is good for the brain, and I belong to two book clubs; one with people who are younger than me, which is fun because we have wine and nibbles in the evening, and one with an older group where we have coffee and cake in the morning. Then once a month I volunteer at my local Talking Newspaper for the Blind, and I still occasionally work as an usher at the theatre. I do a Pilates class every Monday, Dancing for Fun on a Tuesday and Keep Fit on Friday. The Pilates and Keep Fit are online, but that doesn’t make it any easier because the teacher can see you and it’s, “Get your leg up higher Nansi!” And I love lectures, which I tend to attend on Zoom. I do try and stay relevant, I love emoji’s and I did do Wordle for a while, but I got bored with all that “I did in three” nonsense. My biggest treat of the week is going down to the pub every Friday night with my lovely next-door neighbours.

The one thing that does annoy me is people saying, when they ask me my age, that I must have good genes. Good genes? I get no credit for all the hard work I put in.
