A St Paddy’s day to remember

-

One would have needed the proverbial heart of stone not to have laughed when Gerry Adams was denied entry to Barack Obama’s St Patrick’s Day reception by high-handed security staff. However, Mr Obama posed grinning with another scoundrel, Martin McGuinness. Memories of 9/11 and what terrorism really means were, I thought, stronger than that in America. I am also always surprised that the IRA’s love of Ireland is such that they choose to spend their national day not in beautiful Dublin, but in the United States.

Next month, America’s terrorist-cuddling president is visiting Britain. We are warned he may intervene outrageously in our politics by asking us to vote to stay in the EU.

Now we have seen how carefully and thoughtfully he chooses his friends, we know what value to put on his considered judgment of whether Britain would be better off inside or outside Europe.
