‘Everything’s doable’ How Fitzpatrick has used pioneering treatments to save lives
Henry, an 18week old cockapoo, had a broken neck until Prof Fitzpatrick used a homemade surgical tool to pull the bones apart, leaving the tool in the neck, encased in cement, to hold the spine together.
The vet cut through the deformed front legs of Ted, a rescue dog, straightening them with metal plates. The dog was then given an intensive course of hydrotherapy, to build up its muscles.
Prof Fitzpatrick reattached a piece of the shattered front jaw of Harvey, a four-year-old cocker spaniel, using acrylic-coated wires tied to his teeth.
Icicle, a cat, was suffering uncontrollable seizures caused by poisoning. Vets injected vodka into his bloodstream, reversing the effects of the toxin.
