Norwegian freed by Filipino rebels

A Norwegian hostage has been released by Abu Sayyaf militants in the Philippines. They had beheaded two Canadian captives but freed a Filipino woman kidnapped with the Norwegian man in a southern marina last year.

Officials said Kjartan Sekkingstad was freed yesterday in Sulu province after being held for a year in the jungle by the Islamist militants. His release was secured by troops.
