Rogue Republicans

-

SIR – Republicans disowning presidential candidates is not new.

During the 1884 presidential election, splits in the Republican Party led to dissident members supporting the Democrat candidate, Grover Cleveland, in protest against the corruption of their own candidate.

This switch helped achieve a Democrat victory, and the term

Mugwumps was coined for the faction. Perhaps, this time round,

Mugtrumps might be more suitable. Ian Elliott Kyre, Worcestershire
