Pence jeered by cast at Hamilton musical

DONALD TRUMP has taken time out of deciding who will be in his cabinet to defend his vice president-elect after he was jeered by the cast of Broadway musical

Mike Pence was booed by the crowd and heckled by the actors when he went to see the show in New York, which tells how colonial rebels shaped the future of America.

Yesterday, the president-elect met candidates for cabinet roles, including secretaries of state and defence.

But he began the day by tweeting: “The cast of Hamilton was very rude last night to a very good man, Mike Pence. Apologise!”

After the curtain call, Brandon Victor Dixon – who plays Aaron Burr, the nation’s third vice president – read out a statement.

He told Mr Pence: “We, sir, are the diverse America who are alarmed and anxious that your new administration will not protect us, our planet, our children, our parents, or defend us and uphold our inalienable rights.”

On stage, the actors playing Alexander Hamilton and Marquis de Lafayette had high-fived each other as they sang the line of a song: “Immigrants (we get the job done).”

Mr Trump also used social media to reveal why he had agreed to settle a series of lawsuits brought against his Trump University enterprise for $25 million. His lawyers have been arguing against students who claim they paid up to $35,000 to learn Trump’s real estate investing “secrets” from instructors who were not properly qualified.

“The only bad thing about winning the Presidency is that I did not have the time to go through a long but winning trial on Trump U,” the property tycoon wrote. “Too bad!”

The case dogged his presidential campaign and he was attacked by opponents for “fleecing” Americans. The row had threatened to overshadow his time in the Oval office.

Mr Trump tweeted that he had settled the law suit “for a small fraction of the potential award because as President I have to focus on our country.”
