Thousands of chicks dumped in a field
THOUSANDS of chicks, some dead and others dying, have been found dumped in a farmer’s field.
An estimated 3,000 dayold chicks were discovered huddling together in the field near Crowland, Peterborough, on Friday.
Most survived after being put in cardboard boxes to keep warm.
The RSPCA has begun an investigation to find out who dumped the chicks, which are thought to have been bought from a local dealer.
Justin Stubbs, an RSPCA inspector, was called to the scene by a member of the public. He said: “I have never seen anything like it, it was just a sea of yellow. And the noise was unbelievable.
“The chicks are really tiny and quite delicate. Thankfully, most did not appear to be suffering.”
The dealer is said to be assisting the RSPCA with their investigation.
