-

Ashraf Ghani, president of Afghanistan, declared a national day of mourning after at least 140 soldiers were killed by Taliban fighters disguised as fellow soldiers, in the deadliest attack of its kind on a military base.

Many other soldiers were wounded at the base in Mazar-i-Sharif, one official said. Others said the death toll was likely to be higher.
