Robots (2005) CHANNEL 4, 1.30PM ★★★

This computer-animated comedy may feature some lazy storytelling, but it’s otherwise upbeat and visually impressive. Aspiring young inventor Rodney Copperbottom (voiced by Ewan McGregor) takes off to Robot City where he hopes to make his fortune. Robin Williams plays motormouthed sidekick Fender. While most of the comedy is cheeky, some in-jokes may be too obscure for younger viewers.

You Only Live Twice (1967) ITV, 3.15PM ★★★★

Sean Connery’s fifth appearance as James Bond – with a script by Roald Dahl that is only loosely based on Ian Fleming’s novel of the same name – was the first in the series to be really grand in scale, as well as one that cheerfully focuses on Bond’s humour. Here, the secret agent must join up with the Japanese ninja force to ward off a nuclear war. It’s Donald Pleasence’s performance as Blofeld that consistently steals the show.

Thor (2011) CHANNEL 4, 6.50PM ★★★

Kenneth Branagh’s swaggering Marvel adaptation of the Norse legend stars Chris Hemsworth as the powerful but arrogant god. After being cast out of the kingdom of Asgard by his father (Anthony Hopkins), Thor is sent to live on Earth, where he falls for a physicist (Natalie Portman). But danger follows in the form of villainous brother Loki (Tom Hiddleston). Thor: Ragnarok is released in November.
